               INTRODUCTION

The department of biochemistry is one of the foundation departments in the faculty of basic medical sciences of the University of Medical Sciences. It was established in April 22, 2015 to run both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes leading to the award of BSc, MSc and Ph.D degrees in biochemistry.

It also engages in the teaching of biochemistry to medical, dental, nursing, medical laboratory and medical rehabilitation students. The department of biochemistry is pioneered by team-spirited, intellectual, proficient and result-oriented members of Academic and non-Teaching (laboratory and administrative) staff. The department is committed to teaching, research and training through creation of knowledge that contributes to Nigeria’s aspirations to attain global competitiveness in health care delivery and health education.

    OBJECTIVES

The department is committed to teaching, research and training through creation of knowledge that contributes to Nigeria’s aspirations to attain global competitiveness in health care delivery and health education.

PROGRAMME

The Bachelor of Science (BSc.) programme in Biochemistry aims at producing graduates who are well equipped with knowledge to help them tackle problems through basic and applied research. Emphasis will be laid on establishing a sound knowledge on the recent advances in Biochemistry and the application of these tools in health and food/beverage industry. The Bsc programme will also introduce students to research methodology, research ethics and grant writing. Graduates of the programme will be well equipped with theoretical and practical knowledge to make them eligible for higher degree studies in any aspect of Biochemistry and related disciplines.
