Prof Oluwafemi Kuti had his undergraduate medical education at the prestigious University of Nigeria, Nsukka between 1977 and 1983, during which he bagged Distinctions in Physiology, Biochemistry and Anatomy. He had Federal Government of Nigeria Merit Awards for outstanding academic performance in 1980 and 1981 respectively. He also won the Paediatrics Association of Nigeria Award as Best-All Round Student in Paediatrics in 1982.
Prof Kuti had his postgraduate training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University College Hospital Ibadan between 1987 and 1991. He proceeded immediately to the United Kingdom, where he acquired vast international experience across different regions of the United Kingdom. He is a Fellow of the West African College of Surgeons, the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria, and the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecology, England.
In tune with his passion for Nigerian women, Prof Kuti returned voluntarily to Nigeria in 1996, at a time when there was mass exodus of medical professionals out of the country. He worked as a Senior Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at the State Specialist Hospital Ondo, Ondo State between 1996 and 1999 and rose to the enviable position of the Chief Medical Director of the institution in June 1998. He held this position till August 1999, during which period, he achieved many developmental milestones for the institution.
Prof Kuti joined the services of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology of the Obafemi Awolowo University as well as the sister Teaching Hospital in September 1999, and worked assiduously to attain the rank of a Professor in October 2009. He is an astute researcher with over 50 publications to his credit in high-impact journals and has presented his research findings in many international conferences across the globe. His research focus is on Feto-Maternal Medicine. He is the current Head of the Perinatology Unit. He is very passionate in reducing the high maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality in Nigeria.
Professor Kuti is happily married with children.
