INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL ADVERTISEMENT FOR VACANT ACADEMIC AND NON-ACADEMIC POSITIONS

The University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo, Ondo State, Nigeria—the first specialized University of Medical Sciences in Nigeria with the mandate to advance excellence through teaching, innovative research, and service delivery in medical and health sciences disciplines—invites applications from suitably qualified and highly motivated candidates with sufficient academic, administrative, and cognate experience to apply for the following vacant positions:

1. REGISTRAR

Duties

The Registrar is the Principal Officer of the University responsible to the Vice-Chancellor for the day-to-day administrative work of the University. The Registrar, through the leadership of the Registry, provides quality services that enable the University to achieve its goals in teaching, learning, research, and community service. The Registrar is the Chief Administrative Officer of the University and Secretary to Council, the Senate, Congregation, and Convocation.
The candidate must possess integrity, demonstrate transparency, and be computer-literate and proficient in relevant computer applications to e-administration as applicable to the running of a complex and modern University system.

Qualifications and Experience

a. A good honours degree with at least Second Class Lower Division and a Master’s Degree from a recognized University, with at least fifteen (15) unbroken years post-qualification administrative experience, and must have served as a Deputy Registrar in a recognized University or comparable institution for at least three (3) years.
b. Membership of recognized professional bodies such as ANUPA, NIM, CIPM, etc., is required.

Tenure

The appointment shall be for a single non-renewable term of five (5) years. The candidate must not be older than sixty (60) years at the time of taking up the appointment.

Remuneration and Conditions of Service

As applicable to the position of Registrar in Nigerian Public Universities and as determined by the University Governing Council from time to time.


2. UNIVERSITY LIBRARIAN

The University Librarian is a Principal Officer of the University responsible to the Vice-Chancellor for the administration of the University Library and the coordination of all library services in the University.

Qualifications and Experience

a. Minimum of a Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science. Possession of a Doctorate Degree will be an added advantage.
b. Must be certified by the Librarians Registration Council of Nigeria (LRCN) and be ICT proficient.
c. At least fifteen (15) years cognate experience in an academic library.
d. Strong evidence of substantial scholarly publications in reputable international and national journals.
e. Capability to provide academic and administrative leadership.
f. Must not be below the rank of Reader Librarian/Deputy University Librarian.
g. Must not be older than sixty-five (65) years at the time of taking up the appointment.

Vision Statement

Candidates are required to submit a vision statement of not more than 500 words outlining their vision for the University Library over the next five years with emphasis on administration, control, and innovation in library services.

Tenure

Single term of five (5) years from the effective date of appointment.

Salary and Conditions of Service

As applicable to University Librarians in Nigerian Public Universities.


3. DIRECTOR OF WORKS AND MAINTENANCE

Duties

Responsible to the Vice-Chancellor for the day-to-day administration and control of the Division of Works and Maintenance Services, including coordination and implementation of capital projects and maintenance works.

Qualifications

A first degree in Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, Architecture, or Building. Possession of a professional qualification and registration with the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) is mandatory.

EXPERIENCE

Candidates must have at least eighteen (18) years post-qualification experience in a University or an institution of higher learning. Similar experience in other government establishments will be acceptable, provided the last five (5) years have been spent in an upper management position.

SALARY

Basic salary on the scale CONTISS 15 (₦2,232,199.00 – ₦2,875,791.00 per annum).


4. DIRECTOR OF PHYSICAL PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT

Qualification and Experience

Candidates applying for this position are expected to possess a first degree in any of the following disciplines:

  • Civil Engineering

  • Mechanical Engineering

  • Electrical Engineering

  • Estate Management

  • Urban and Regional Planning

  • Building

  • Architecture

  • Quantity Surveying

  • Land Surveying

The degree must be from a recognized University with a minimum of Second Class Lower Division and at least eighteen (18) years post-qualification cognate experience.

Possession of a professional qualification from a relevant professional body is mandatory.
Possession of M.Sc. or MBA will be an added advantage.
Computer literacy is required.

Salary

Basic salary on the scale CONTISS 15 (₦2,232,199.00 – ₦2,875,791.00 per annum).


5. DIRECTOR OF AUDIT

Qualification

Candidates must possess a first degree in Accounting or Economics from a reputable University with a minimum of Second Class Lower Division.
Possession of a Postgraduate Diploma or Degree in a relevant field will be an added advantage.

Candidates must also possess a professionally recognized accounting qualification such as:

  • ICAN

  • ANAN

  • ACCA (UK)

  • ACMA (UK)

  • CPA (UK), etc.

Experience

Candidates must have at least eighteen (18) years post-qualification experience, five (5) of which must be at a Senior Management position in a University or comparable tertiary institution.
Candidates must also demonstrate good competence in computerized accounting systems.

Salary

Basic salary on the scale CONTISS 15 (₦2,232,199.00 – ₦2,875,791.00 per annum).


6. PRINCIPAL LEGAL OFFICER (CONTISS 13)

Qualification and Experience

Candidates must possess a good Bachelor of Laws Degree (LL.B) with at least Second Class Lower Division from a recognized University, and be a Barrister at Law (B.L).

Candidates must have a minimum of nine (9) years cognate experience in a University or an institution of comparable status.


7. SENIOR LEGAL OFFICER (CONTISS 9)

Qualification and Experience

Candidates must possess a good Bachelor of Laws Degree (LL.B) with at least Second Class Lower Division from a recognized University, and be a Barrister at Law (B.L).

Candidates must have a minimum of three (3) years cognate experience in a University or an institution of comparable status.


SALARIES AND ALLOWANCES

Salaries and allowances are as obtainable in the Nigerian Public Universities.

As contained in the approved Conditions of Service for staff of the University.
