It is my pleasure to welcome you to the Institute of Sports Science and Medicine University of Medical Sciences Ondo city, Ondo State. Nigeria. This institute is established to ensure that the University blends and trends with the best global practices. It is on this premise that the University established the Institute of Sports Science and Medicine in August, 2024 which is the first of its kind in a University of Medical Sciences in Nigeria. With clarity that today’s world is looking for preventive rather than curative measures and that exercise has been identified as one of the key factors that can reduce and manage sicknesses especially metabolic and cardiopulmonary diseases as well as lifestyle related conditions. Posterity will forever be grateful to the earstwhile Vice Chancellor, Prof. Adesegun Fatusi for his drive and innovative approaches to academic excellence for the establishment of the Institute.
In line with the vision of the University, our students are groomed to be worthy in learning and character, even as they evolve as practitioners who are competent in the preventive, promotive, therapeutic as well as curative knowledge and skills in the field of Sports Science and Medicine. The institute offers trainings at Postgraduate diploma, MPhil, MSc and Ph.D levels in Sports Science and Medicine programmes. Through our classes and laboratory sessions, our students are exposed to a wide scope of practical techniques and hands-on trainings.
The institute is committed to postgraduate training of students in a wide array of research that has concerns on Exercise and physical activity, recreation and sports, as well as membership of the Sports council in order to facilitate sports, fitness and wellness competences and knowledge. Currently, the institute is networking with some national institutions for capacity strengthening initiatives, as well as exchange programmes for staff and students for capacity strengthening and scope enlargement.
The Institute is suitable globally for training Sports Science and Medicine practitioners. So permit on this note, to welcome all prospective students and interested stakeholders to the Institute of Sports Science and Medicine, University of Medical Sciences, of the first University of Medical Sciences in Nigeria.
