WELCOME!

I congratulate you for being part of an innovative step in the history of medical education in Nigeria. As students of the pioneer University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED) in the West Africa sub-region, you have a unique opportunity of being trained by some of the best professionals in the medical world.

It is my pleasure to introduce and welcome you to the Student Affairs Division, located within the Administrative Building in the University. We are central to UNIMED's mission of assisting students in their intellectual, physical, emotional, social, and moral development. Students are at the focus of our work as we strive to provide quality informal learning environment within the UNIMED community. Our functions, which are administrative, educational, and supportive, include meeting students' basic needs such as accommodation, health services, feeding arrangements, and transport. We provide essential services such as financial assistance through information on bursaries and scholarships and promotion of a healthy environment on campus by caring for the psychological and developmental needs through sporting activities. We also provide professional counseling and advice, augmenting the academic experience through the provision of productive, recreational, cultural, and social events.

We are responsible for the formulation of the policy about student activities on campus and acts as coordinator, resource, and referral center for any student concerns and student life. Our staff is available to assist the students in the interpretation of life policies and the resolution of personal, social, and academic challenges and resolution of problems. We also provide information about and referral to campus and community resources and promote initiatives that address student's needs and interest. Also, we serve as a resource for parents, faculty, and staff in supporting student retention, graduation, and overall student success at UNIMED.

Our Division creates an enriching environment and develops favorable policies that support students who have physical and learning disabilities by communicating their challenges to the faculty and managers in the hall of residence. I warmly welcome our students and stakeholders to UNIMED.
