Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu, SAN, on Thursday, 6th of May, 2021, commissioned the School of Public Health of the University of Medical Sciences, (UNIMED), Ondo.
The UNIMED School of Public Health is located at Bolorunduro, Ondo East Local Government Area of the State.
The Governor also commissioned the Centre For Herbal Medicine and Drug Production and thereafter performed the foundation-laying ceremony of Hon. and Dr (Mrs) Abiola Makinde’s Health Center at the school.
The governor, who noted that the development of UNIMED remained a priority of his administration, affirmed that no stone would be left unturned in ensuring that the university truly fulfilled its vision.
Akeredolu, who described health and education as the two major pillars of human existence, said the two sectors were key to his administration's agenda of moving the state to the next level of socio-economic development.
Earlier, the Vice-Chancellor, UNIMED, Ondo, Prof. Adesegun Fatusi described the school as the first full-fledged School of Public Health in Nigeria.
‘Just as our University is the first specialized University of Health and Medical Sciences in the country, this School stands in a class of its own in the world of public health training facilities in Nigeria,’ Fatusi stated.
