The Faculty of Nursing Science UNIMED evolved in 2018 from the Department of Nursing Science under the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences. Pioneer Head of Department of Nursing Science UNIMED was Professor Samuel U. Akpovi.

The Schools of Nursing and Midwifery Akure were fully integrated into the University of Medical Sciences under the Faculty of Nursing Science in line with reforms in nursing education in Nigeria in 2018.

Professor Elsie Jolade, a Clinical Professor of Nursing based in the USA, visits the Faculty and donates books and items to the University from time to time, to support the Faculty. She was around in January 2021 and donated some books again.
