Information and Communication Technology

It gives me great pleasure writing this welcome message to all stakeholders of the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), at Ondo City, Ondo State, Nigeria. With the development of Information Technology (IT), there has been a significant change in the delivery of medical education and medical service. IT is now an indispensable tool for driving all these services.

The Vision of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Centre is “to be a world class Information Technology Service Centre promoting health care, education, research, and service delivery.” Our Mission is “to be committed to the implementation of cost-effective solutions that enhances quality education for students and gives administrators and faculty the means to operate effectively and efficiently.”

There are three major units within the ICT Centre:

I.             Software Applications Development Unit

II.           Systems Network and Engineering Unit

III.         Capacity Development and Training Unit

The ICT Centre is the technology hub for the University by providing exceptional services for students, faculty, staff, and guests. As a Service Centre, our Centre develops and maintains the backbone of the IT Centre needed for the University to achieve effective internal governance and global excellence. Services provided at our Centre are not limited to the following creates a platform for UNIMED’s visibility amongst world Universities, connects buildings and facilities to the internet, provides E-Learning Management System platform for teaching and research, deploys Enterprise Resource Planning applications for University transactions. Also, the Centre offers IT competencies for students, faculties, staff and host community. Upon resumption to campus, the Centre provides personalized webmail account and access to the internet for students, faculties, and staff.

All these feats are achieved with the cooperation and dedication of the friendly staff in the Centre.  A comprehensive Strategic Plan guides the operations of our unit.

Several visiting accreditation bodies have adjudged the ICT Centre as a great asset in contributing to learning and teaching in UNIMED.
