UNIMED Hosts Trade Fair x Food Drive, Reaches Over 400 Students

The University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo, witnessed a vibrant blend of welfare support and student engagement as the National Association of University Students (NAUS), in collaboration with the UNIMED Students’ Union, hosted the Trade Fair x Food Drive (Campus Relief Walk) on April 24, 2026, at the Odosida Campus.

The initiative, spearheaded by Osho John Oluwatoyosi, NAUS Director of Socials, and Oyetomi Oyindamola Oyeronke, UNIMEDSU Director of Welfare, was designed to provide food relief for financially challenged students while fostering inclusiveness and campus interaction.

The event featured distribution of free food packages, trade exhibitions by student vendors, dance and food competitions, weight-lifting challenges, raffle draws, and interactive games. It attracted over 400 students, with more than 250 directly benefiting from food support and giveaways, including gadgets and power banks.

Speaking on the initiative, Oyeronke described it as a deeply personal project rooted in a long-standing vision to establish a structured food support system for students. She noted that the collaboration with NAUS transformed what was once an idea into a practical intervention, adding that the overwhelming student turnout and engagement reaffirmed the urgency of prioritizing student welfare. She expressed appreciation to sponsors, volunteers, and supporters whose contributions made the initiative a reality.

Similarly, Oluwatoyosi emphasized that the project reflects a broader vision of driving student-centered impact beyond a single institution, expressing optimism that the success recorded at UNIMED would serve as a model for similar interventions across universities in Ondo State.

Despite limited resources, the event recorded significant impact, promoting student welfare, supporting small-scale vendors, and strengthening campus unity. Organizers described the initiative as a foundation for sustained, collaborative welfare interventions within the student community.
